Since its foundation in 2009, the group ZIIZ (Zumaiako Industria-ondarearen Informazio Zentroa, Information Centre for the Industrial Heritage of Zumaia, in Basque), works for the rehabilitation and the acknowledgement of the value of the Industrial Heritage of Zumaia. Thus, their main commitment is to sensitize local population and visitors about the value of this kind of heritage, emphasizing the necessity of conserving and protecting it.

In the last decades, urban evolution has drawn a new plan from which the physical remains of its industrial past have nearly completely been erased. However, some elements of this landscape are still visible, as a reminder of those prosperous times. These information boards, installed by ZIIZ in several spots throughout the municipality of Zumaia, intend to be the small links of a chain remembering the industrial fabric of the town and the companies of its four main sectors, already disappeared.
